The economic environment

The economic region of Creusot-Montceau is one of the leading European cradles for steelwork and mechanics. Over the past four decades, it has seen a remarkable conversion take place by diversifying its economic base, and strengthening the expertise and infrastructure dedicated to industry.

The sign of a successful industrial restructuring, the Creusot-Montceau region now is home to the latest technology, the result of an active cooperation between public and private research centres.

Recognised as one of the major industrial centres between Paris and Lyon, the Creusot-Montceau Community contains a high concentration of companies in the sectors of energy and transport, equipped with excellent expertise and specific skills, from design, research and production of key components of nuclear power plants to the design of multi-mobile machinery sectors (rail, road and infrastructure).
As such, Creusot-Montceau benefits from the many companies in the GNP competitiveness cluster and the cluster of MECATEAMCLUSTER companies.

The territory also includes several world leaders in various fields of business such as Michelin, Areva, Arcelor-MITTAL, Snecma (GrouPE SAFRAN), Alstom TRANSPORT, NFM TECHNOLOGIES, THERMODYN (General Electric – oil & GAS), ISOROY (groupe SONAE INDUSTRIA), Terex Cranes France… In recent years, many companies have also chosen to settle in this region, such as ORMAZABAL (Spain), SIAG and WesTfalen (Germany), Quinn Plastics (Ireland), Turbine Casting (the Netherlands), Haulotte GROUP, Bubendorff, WEBHELP, SOTRALENTZ….

In parallel to these locations, research centres belonging to international groups and three research laboratories of the university centre, a relocated extension of the University of Burgundy, are experiencing tremendous growth in connection with international companies and research laboratories (CNRS) specialising in 3D vision, laser technology and industrial processes.

Finally, other development opportunities are emerging with the location of logistics platforms (LIDL, SCHIEVER) and service centres specialising in customer relationship management (VITARIS, WEBHELP, LE BON COIN).

In order to present our economic environment and highlight our industry’s variety and its know-how, the region has developed the business magazine Ecosphere that gives a voice to the business managers of our region.Topics presented: :
